  • Perspectives for biogas production - Agricultural Engineering

    The latest directives of the Energy and Environment Policy of the European Union (EU) established a new framework for renewable sources (Directive EC 28/2009; European Commission, 2009). The Italian Energy Action Plan of 2010 set a target of at least 17% of total energy generated from renewable sources by 2020. In this context biogas from waste and biomass is a potential energy source that can be used for the production of heat, electricity and fuel. The objective of this work was to determine the potential energy production from anaerobic digestion of animal wastes and agricultural residues in Friuli Venezia Giulia (Nord-East Italy). For an assessment of biogas as an energy source, based on direct conversion by agricultural farms, it is important to establish the amount of the waste. In this study, biogas amount which can be obtained was calculated for all municipalities in the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region (North-East of Italy) by using the number of livestock animals, the cereal area for agricultural residues and also considering various criteria such as the rate of dry matter and availability. The calculated regional biogas potential is about 187 (N)Gm3 when using animal waste, straw and corn stalk. The potential of biogas energy equivalent of Friuli Venezia Giulia is about 3 600 TJ (LHV) may be able to replace 2.6% of final energy consumption in Friuli Venezia Giulia (3 339 ktoe) and about 10% of the final electricity consumption (864 ktoe) considering an electrical efficiency of 30% with the biogas engine.

  • Technology Benchmarking: First Analysis

    The main objective of this document is to carry out a benchmark analysis of internationally existing competencies in the distinct technology fields and to identify regional research potential. The related key and cross-sectional technologies have been evaluated and compared with other European regions in order to identify the regional research potentials where the Interreg IV region is: already on international level, can reach international level, can fill gaps on research, and can use regional differences. Furthermore have been identified the potential niche segments for the development of energy research capabilities for the Interreg IV region. The present study analyses technological outputs of R&D activities as the measures to elucidate technological innovation of the Interreg Italia-Austria region. In order to compare and evaluate the technological outputs of R&D activities, has been examinated the patent production.

    Artikel 4 der Energieeffizienz-Richtlinie (Richtlinie 2012/27/EU) lädt die Mitgliedstaaten ein, eine langfristige Strategie für die Mobilisierung von Investitionen in die Erneuerung des nationalen Bestandes an sowohl öffentlichen als auch privaten Wohn- und Geschäftsgebäuden zu etablieren. Das Pilotprojekt konzentriert sich auf die ersten beiden Schritte der Strategie: Einen Überblick über den regionalen Gebäudebestand basierend auf statistischen Stichproben geben und kosteneffiziente Ansätze zur Renovierung identifizieren, die für die Gebäudetypen und die Klimazone relevant sind. Eine evidenzbasierte Schätzung der erwarteten Energieeinsparungen kann basierend auf der Analyse von Energieeffizienzfragen für verschiedene Gebäudetypologien und der Bewertung der Machbarkeit und des Potenzials von geeigneten Energiesparmaßnahmen gegeben werden.

    The EPBD (Directive 2012/27/EC) art 4 invites Member States to establish a long-term strategy for mobilization of investments in the renovation of the national stock of residential and commercial buildings, both public and private. The pilot focuses on the first two steps of the strategy: To give an overview of the regional building stock based on statistical sampling and to identify cost-effective approaches to renovation relevant to the building type and climatic zone. An evidence-based estimation of expected energy savings can be given based on the analysis energy efficiency issues for different building typologies and the assessment of the feasibility and potential of suitable energy saving measures.

Dafür vertiefte CTR die Beziehungen in dem Netzwerk, um Forschungsprojekte und Wissenschafts- und Industrie-Konsortien zu etablieren. Die Forschungsaktivitäten werden den Innovationsstandort Villach deutlich erweitern und den Standort weiter stärken. Es wurden potenzielle Synergien und eine mögliche Beteiligung an Projekten der anderen Partner in dem Netzwerk identifiziert und entsprechend umgesetzt.

    Based on the preliminary work in the project CTR developed a research program for solar technologies and aligned it with CTRs strategy for smart energy research. In that respect CTR deepened the relationships in the network to set up research projects and consortiums of science and industry. Potential synergies and possible participation in projects of the other partners in the network were clarified and implemented accordingly.

    Dieses Dokument beschreibt die Analyse der Energietechnologiekompetenzen von Kärnten und Friaul-Julisch Venetien (FJV). Die identifizierten Kompetenzen sind die Grundlage für die Bestimmung der potenziellen Synergien und gemeinsamen Forschungsbereiche. Kapitel 2 beschreibt kurz die Unternehmenslandschaft basierend auf einer umfangreichen Online- und Offline-Recherche und einer Klassifikation der Kompetenzen. Die regionalen Kompetenzen wurden online in einer Datenbank zusammengefasst – der sogenannten Kompetenzlandkarte. Kapitel 3 listet die Forschungsinstitutionen und ihre jeweiligen Forschungsbereiche in Energietechnologien in den untersuchten Regionen auf. Kapitel 4 fasst die potentiellen Forschungsbereiche zusammen und listet mögliche Forschungsaufgaben auf, die aus der vorangegangenen Kompetenzanalyse abgeleitet werden.   • Technology Benchmarking: Synergy Study (EN)

    This document outlines the analysis of the energy technology competencies in the regions of Carinthia and Friuli Venezia Giulia (FVG). The identified competencies are the basis for the definition of potential synergies and cooperative research areas. Chapter 2 describes shortly the company landscape based on extensive online and offline research and a classification of the competencies. The regional competencies have been organized in an online database – the so called competency map. Chapter 3 lists the research institutions and their respective research areas in energy technologies in the considered regions. Chapter 4 summarizes the potential research areas and lists possible research tasks derived from the former analysis of competencies. A more detailed elaboration can be found in the Roadmap for Energy Technologies in the Alps Adriatic Region.
